The Investigation and Training Coordinator of the Office of Equity and Equal Opportunity (OEEO) will support the department's mission of promoting fairness and justice, ensuring that each member of the Miami University community is and feels included and promoting a diverse and welcoming environment that is equally accessible for all who live, learn, work and participate in activities at Miami University. 


The Investigation and Training Coordinator, an integral member of the OEEO team, will report to the Director of OEEO and work very closely with the Associate Director responsible for investigations. This position will support OEEO’s mission by managing the daily responsibilities associated with responding to and conducting harassment and discrimination investigations. These responsibilities include: developing an investigation plan; contacting all involved parties and providing them with information about the investigatory process; interviewing witnesses; gathering and securing relevant documentation and information; keeping accurate and thorough records and notes of the investigatory process; issuing a report at the conclusion of each investigation. All of this will be accomplished while maintaining an impartial, unbiased and fair position and acting with sensitivity towards the issues and needs of all parties. This position will work to continuously identify and integrate best practices regarding harassment and discrimination investigations.  This position will also respond to bias incident reports and incident reports from the Office of Residence Life; and manage the OEEO investigation database and track the database for trends. 

The Investigation and Training Coordinator will conduct university-wide harassment, discrimination and Title IX training; and manage the online harassment and discrimination training program. This position will also support Assistant Directors with other employment compliance issues, as needed.  Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in psychology, criminal justice, sociology or closely related field;
• One (1) year experience conducting investigations by collecting relevant information and evidence, interviewing witnesses, fact-finding and writing investigatory reports, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the duties of the position;
• Excellent public speaking, interpersonal communication, reasoning and organization skills; and must possess a strong level of integrity and work ethic, individual initiative and dependability; and
• Ability to remain neutral, listen, identify and disseminate essential information needed to assess and resolve complex problems; manage highly sensitive and confidential communications; complete projects on a timely basis and manage multiple priorities; work collaboratively with others and foster positive relationships; work independent of direct supervision; serve a diverse student, faculty and staff population with cultural competence and sensitivity; work evenings and weekends; and travel, as needed.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master’s degree in psychology, criminal justice, sociology or closely related field or J.D.
• Two (2) years’ experience conducting harassment and discrimination investigations in a university setting.
• Knowledge of affirmative action, equal employment opportunity and non-discrimination rules, policies, and regulations, including Title VI and VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Executive Order 11246, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, Vietnam Era Veterans’ Readjustment Assistance Act of 1974 and Sections 503, 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1974, Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, as amended, and other related federal and state regulations.
