Tenure-track Assistant Professor in area of lighting design.
Responsibilities include teaching classes in lighting design/technology in the major; rotating into general education courses in theatre technologies, introduction to theatre, and creativity, innovation & design; academic advising of majors; mentoring student lighting designers and/or designing lights for five university productions per year.
We embrace intellectual curiosity, and provide opportunities for candidates to shape the position to their interests beyond the core responsibilities. Supervising electrics labs, teaching and mentoring stage managers, and designing in other areas (scenery, projections, costumes, sound) are possible options. Opportunities exist to develop special topics courses in areas of expertise (in either the BA program or the MA program), engage in and interdisciplinary curricula, and to develop global/international workshops and curricula.
M.F.A in lighting design at time of appointment required. A creative agenda that includes ongoing lighting design in the profession expected for tenure, as well as teaching and service.
Strong candidates will have a membership in USITT, USAA; demonstrate a record of commitment to multicultural projects and issues. The strong candidate will be a creative artist and thinker, an active and supportive collaborator, and an engaging teacher and mentor. The strong candidate will have teaching experience at the collegiate level, and a record of professional lighting design in the performing arts.
