Assistant/Associate Professor in Mechanical Engineering Technology
with James A. Myers Endowed Professorship
Miami University Department of Engineering Technology is accepting applications for a full time faculty position with James A. Myers Endowed Professorship to be housed on the Middletown campus. This tenure-track position is at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor commencing in August of 2016.
Engineering Technology is a growing and dynamic department offering a professionally rewarding opportunity for the right candidate. Over the past few years we have hired several new high-caliber faculty who have strong and diverse research interests with extraordinary teaching abilities. We are looking to add to this dynamic team.
The department offers ABET/ETAC accredited bachelor’s completion degree programs with concentrations in Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering Technology; and associate degree programs in Mechanical Engineering Technology and Electrical & Computer Engineering Technology. In addition, the department offers a new bachelor’s completion degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering Technology. The department is part of the College of Professional Studies and Applied Sciences of Miami University and is based on Miami’s open-admission regional campuses in Hamilton and Middletown Ohio.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses during day and evening hours. Some courses may be delivered by interactive video and web. Courses to be taught include but are not limited to: mechanical vibrations, finite element analysis, advanced machine design, mechanisms, computer-aided drafting and design, manufacturing, solid modeling and fundamental mechanical courses such as statics, dynamics. The individual hired is expected to be an effective teacher, develop curriculum, advise students, actively engage in outreach programs to promote associate and bachelor degree programs, provide meaningful service to the department and the university which will include some program coordination activities, and to develop and maintain high quality scholarship.
Bachelor’s and Master's in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or closely related field and post-secondary teaching experience coupled with technologically current work experience. Applicants that possess a Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar STEM degree plus a Master’s Degree in related field and at least five (5) years’ experience in mechanical engineering will also be considered. The successful candidate must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills in English. For appointment as Associate Professor, candidate must have an existing record of high quality teaching, scholarship and service with at least five years of college teaching.
Strong candidates will need: Ph.D.; relevant and technologically current industry experience; Professional Engineering License; and Postsecondary teaching experience.
