Detailed Job Description

The Sponsored Contracts Adminstrator brings a broad understanding of legal matters to the administration of sponsored grants and contracts and works directly with the primary official responsible for review and negotiation of sponsored agreements.

Additional Department Summary:

This position works with faculty researchers, serving as a coordinator for all necessary review and communications between the researcher, the sponsor and the University offices involved in review and approval of the terms and conditions of sponsored agreements. This position provides significant support to the Director of Research Administration in overall management and administration of legal responsibilities and issues that relate to grants and contracts within the Office for Sponsored Programs (OSP) and other units within the Office of the Vice President for Research and Economic Development. This position assists the Director of Research Administration in all aspects of sponsored contract review and administration including support for OSP personnel engaged in contract proposal submission. This position reports to the Director of Research Administration and receives general guidance and supervision, but is expected to work independently and to be a key contributor to the Research and Economic Development management team. This position requires knowledge and understanding of FAR clauses and federal regulations as well as intellectual property issues in higher education.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Juris Doctor and licensed to practice law in Alabama OR must become a member of the Alabama Bar within one year of the date of hire.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

J.D. Degree from an accredited law school.

Skills and Knowledge:

A high degree of problem solving and original thinking are required to successfully carry out the responsibilities of this position. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work collegially with University faculty, staff and sponsors. Experience working with FAR clauses (including DOD, DOE and NASA); understanding of intellectual property issues and IP commercialization issues in higher education; understanding of EAR/ITAR regulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed by the Alabama State Bar, experience working in an institution of higher education office for sponsored programs; experience with federal contract laws and regulations including FAR, HIPAA, Bayh-Dole, and EAR/ITAR. Knowledge of business organizations, intellectual property and technology commercialization laws. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
