The position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Humanities and will provide 15 credit hours of day and evening instruction per semester.

Duties & Responsibilities

The position reports directly to the Dean of the School of Humanities and will provide 15 credit hours of day and evening instruction per semester. Responsibilities will include curriculum development and teaching of Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses and other courses as assigned. Additional duties include advisement, service on various college and department committees, and maintenance of office hours. The position will also evaluate student and community needs in order to develop and implement an innovative program that meets the needs of both speakers and non-speakers of Spanish and other duties as assigned by the Dean.


A Master’s Degree in Spanish, Applied Linguistics, or a related field with strong training in second language pedagogy. Fluency required in Spanish and evidence of effective, interactive, student-centered instruction. Minimum of two years experience in language instruction at college, adult or secondary level required. The successful candidate will value diversity and have a multicultural perspective with adult/minority students; and have a high energy level along with a strong commitment to the community college philosophy.

Starting Salary

Commensurate with educational background and teaching experience according to placement on the San Juan College faculty salary pay-band.
