MSW Program Director for Campus and Distance Program
The School of Social Work at The University of Alabama invites applications for the position of MSW Program Director for Campus and Distance Program. Applications will be accepted until January 30, 2016; expected start date is August 16, 2016.
The successful candidate will effectively communicate a vision for leadership and administration of the Master of Social Work (MSW) program and demonstrate the ability to work collegially and effectively across and within multiple academic, student and community audiences. Qualifications and characteristics include, but are not limited to:
• MSW from a CSWE accredited school, two years post MSW experience; while a PhD in social work is preferred other doctorates in a closely related field will be considered
• Familiarity with CSWE re-affirmation procedures
• Licensed social worker or license eligible
• Experience in teaching and advising graduate students
• Knowledge of face- to- face and distance (e.g.,on-line) program planning, evaluation and assessment, curriculum development and monitoring students’ progress
• Two years on-line teaching experience
• Experience in on-line course development
• Prior academic administrative experience
This will be a 9 month, 1.0 FTE (.75 Administration, .25 research and or instruction), (preferably)tenured or tenure-earning appointment. Typically, the MSW Director also has a half-time summer administrative appointment.
MSW Program Director
The MSW Program Director provides administrative oversight to the MSW Program (campus and on-line). The MSW Program Director is a member of the UA School of Social Work executive committee and chairs the MSW Program committee.
The MSW Program Chair reports directly to the Dean and supervises support faculty and staff associated with the MSW Program including the Coordinator of Instructional Technology, Skills Lab Instructors, adjunct faculty and the MSW Program Assistant.
a. Serves as chair of the MSW Program Committee (this is a standing committee that sets policy for the program and reviews all curriculum matters)
b. Coordination of main campus and distance course offerings
c. Coordination of on-line courses offerings including skills labs
d. Coordination of MSW student advising
e. Facilitates the MSW student orientations (both campus and distance)
f. Monitoring and evaluation of MSW Program curriculum.
g. Coordination of MSW Program admission procedures
h. Assisting with MSW retention and recruitment efforts
i. Review faculty syllabi for MSW Program
j. Coordinate with Field Office to support graduate Field education
k. Facilitates Professional Preparedness reviews for MSW social work students
l. Coordinates with the Assistant Dean for MSW student issues such as academic misconduct, grade appeals, and exceptions to academic policies
m. Works closely with College of Continuing Studies (CCS) and Social Work faculty to review and update all distance offered courses
n. Serves as school representative to CCS
Integrated Academic Planning Coordination
a. Member of the Executive Committee
b. In consultation with BSW, PhD and Field Program Directors and the Assistant Dean, the MSW Program Director assists with course scheduling activities.
c. Coordinates information and prioritizes data from MSW program so there is a balance of interest in teaching and meeting the needs of programmatic curricula needs in a timely manner.
d. Recommends adjunct faculty for hire and evaluates adjunct faculty in collaboration with the Assistant Dean.
Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement Planning, Implementation and Integration
a. The MSW Program Director along with the Dean, the BSW Program Director, the PhD Program Director, Faculty Committees and the Assistant Dean will assist with SSW Assessment and Continuous Quality Improvement protocols as specified by CSWE and other bodies as needed (e.g., SACS).
a. Provides ongoing assistance to expand, diversify and improve the depth and connectivity of our community partnerships, including our on-line, out of state communities.
b. Ensures continuous and effective communication regarding local, regional, national and international trends in master’s level campus and on-line social work education.
University Committees and Reports
a. Assists with the development of internal and external reports, handbooks, and other documents, including CSWE annual statistical report and accreditation reports;
b. Revision of the MSW handbook for faculty and staff, students and field education and assist with updates of the Undergraduate Catalogs.
Accreditation/Reaffirmation Coordination (CSWE and SACS)
a. Assists with the coordination of revision components.
a. Other duties as assigned by Dean (special projects).
