Saint Mary’s College Counseling Center is pleased to announce our Postdoctoral position for the 2013-2014  academic year, beginning August 12, 2013 and concluding May 31, 2014. The Residency requires a 9.5 month, 5 day per week commitment in order to meet California licensing requirements of 1500 hours supervised postdoctoral experience. Generous leave is offered during holidays, sick time and vacation.
Clinical responsibilities include: individual, couples and group psychotherapy, intake assessment, crisis intervention, triage, on-call and consultation. Other duties include: program development, workshops, classroom presentations, and special projects as assigned. The Counseling Center collaborates with many departments including Academic Advising and Achievement Program, Academic Affairs, Athletic Department, Health and Wellness Center, Intercultural Center, Residence Life, and Women’s Resource Center. The Postdoctoral Resident actively reaches out to underrepresented populations such as: students from a low socioeconomic group, first generation college students, LGBTQIQ community, students with disabilities and students of color.
The training component of the Postdoctoral position consists of a minimum of 6 hours including: clinical seminar, outreach seminar, individual and group supervision, case conference, group training and supervised supervision of a practicum student. The Counseling Center’s theoretical orientation is primarily psychodynamic with a strong emphasis on relational theories. Seminar focuses on brief psychodynamic treatment with specific training from Hanna Levenson’s (1995) book, Time Limited Dynamic Therapy (TLDP).

Experience and Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:  Psy.D, Ph.D. in Clinical/Counseling Psychology from APA accredited graduate program, completed by start date of August 12, 2013.
Preferred Qualifications:  College/University Counseling Center experience at practicum and/or internship level. Fluency in Spanish in a therapy setting is desired but not required.
