The IT Technical Specialist IV performs advanced IT activities for specialized, complex and/or functional areas requiring the expert knowledge and professional application of IT principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards and university policy. Requires a great amount of evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May be responsible for training, assisting or supervising lower level IT personnel and other staff. May lead projects and cross-functional activities.

Additional Department Summary:

The Systems Administrator provides technical support to the Center for Advanced Public Safety (CAPS). Working under the supervision of the CAPS IT Director this position will provide systems administration experience and knowledge as part of a team assigned to manage information technology for a cutting edge software research and development research center on campus at The University of Alabama. Duties include everyday operations management of infrastructure systems across multiple data centers and multiple buildings in multiple cities. Duties also include project management as well as everyday monitoring, maintenance, and support of systems, applications, peripherals, and end-users. Responsibilities include administering VMware server infrastructure, SAN technologies, windows administration, databases, management and monitoring systems, regulatory compliance, and software and hardware inventory management. Secondary responsibilities include end-user support, documentation, training, and other duties as assigned.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional IT experience, OR Master's degree and 1 year of professional IT experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, education and/or certification from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been obtained. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional or security technology skills or knowledge of project management methods and applications. May require advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Windows server administration. VMware virtualization technologies.

Skills and Knowledge:

Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, with users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. Effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred Qualifications:

VDI experience. SQL Server database administration. Experience with SAN storage technologies. Experience working in a University environment. Experience working in a research center/grant funded organization. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
