Description of Position: Assistant Professor of Organizational Training and Development, Department of Workforce Education and Development, College of Education and Human Services, Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Responsibilities: Specific areas of responsibility include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, both seated and online, in Workforce Education and Development; advising students; chairing master's students' committees; co-chairing doctoral students' committees; pursuing a continuing line of research activities leading to scholarly publications and local/national/international presentations; providing service to constituencies of the Department, College, and University; and assuming other departmental responsibilities as assigned. The preparation of proposals for external funding will be encouraged.

Requirements of Candidates:

  1. The rank of Assistant Professor requires an earned doctorate with a specialization in instructional technology, human resource development, workforce education, adult learning, or related field. Applicants who have completed all but the dissertation and who expect to complete all requirements for the doctorate prior to August 15, 2016, will be considered. If official evidence of the appointee's completion of the earned doctorate is not received by August 15, 2016, the position offered will be a nine-month, term appointment at the rank of Instructor and at a lower salary.
  2. Applicants must have:
    1. documented workforce education and development background;
    2. experience in instructional technology, computer-based instruction, and/or multimedia-based instruction/training in public or private sectors;
    3. record of undergraduate or graduate teaching (postsecondary);
    4. potential to develop a record of research and scholarly activities;
    5. experience, interest, and potential for securing grant funding; and
    6. oral proficiency in the English language as required by Illinois state law

Preferred Experience: Experience working with doctoral students; experience teaching research courses; and experience teaching online college courses.

Appointment:
This is a continuing tenure-track appointment. Appointment is for a nine-month academic year. Contingent upon available funding and demand for teaching assignments, an additional summer session appointment may be offered. Progress in rank will require demonstrated productivity in research, publication, teaching, and service. Position is contingent on available funding.

Effective Date of Employment: August, 16, 2016.
