Miami University, Hamilton Campus, invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in physics beginning August 2016. Miami-Hamilton is an open enrollment regional campus of a highly regarded public university. Associate and bachelor degrees in select areas are offered, as well as the first two years of most majors offered on the main campus.
Teaching duties for this position include introductory algebra-based physics, introductory calculus-based physics and their associated laboratories as well as a variety of physics courses for non-science majors. Areas of scholarship that enable collaboration with Miami Physics faculty or other Miami science faculty are preferred. Examples include, but are not limited to, biological, condensed matter, materials, solid state, or computational physics, quantum optics, and physics education. Additional duties include providing general advising to undergraduates and performing service to the department and the university. This colleague will play a vital role in the development of a new regional campus interdisciplinary mathematics and physical science department.
The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in physics or a closely related field by date of appointment and a commitment to excellence in undergraduate physics teaching and student involvement in research.
Strong candidates will have experience in teaching in a studio physics format or using other active learning strategies and an interest in teaching-laboratory experiment development, and development of online and/or hybrid courses.
