Under the direction of the Vice President of Development and Alumni, the Sr. Director of Development oversees development services units within the Division of Development and Alumni and serves as the UVU Foundation’s Chief Operating Officer. The Development Group comprises Development Services, Gift Planning, and Prospect Research. Specific duties of the Associate VP include personally managing and soliciting a modest portfolio of major gifts prospects. The Sr. Director – Development collaborates closely with colleagues leading the Donor Engagement Group and the Alumni Relations and Annual Giving Group. As Chief Operating Officer of the Foundation, this individual also oversees the Foundation’s administrative and accounting staff.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree in a directly related field, plus four years of experience related to the Summary of Duties of the position or Bachelor’s degree in a directly related field, plus six years related to the Summary of Duties of the position or any combination of higher education and/or experience totaling ten years.
Knowledge of and significant direct experience with fund raising procedures, techniques, and the ability to apply this knowledge in personal fund raising.
Basic knowledge of contracts and agreements.
Knowledge of the operation of a foundation, including understanding of the required financial, compliance, and regulatory affairs procedures.
Knowledge of best practices in board leadership.
Knowledge of best practices in staff management and mentoring.
Knowledge of fund-raising best-practices and legal, compliance, and ethical constraints.
Knowledge of and direct experience with best practices for comprehensive development campaigns.
Knowledge of best practices in direct solicitation,foundation accounting, prospect research, gift planning, stewardship, annual giving, and development services, including gift accounting, gift processing, and development technology and database operations.
Knowledge of tax law pertaining to philanthropy.
Knowledge of general sound business practices.
Knowledge of budgeting procedures.

Robust skills in reading, understanding, and evaluating legal documents.
