This position supports Civil Engineering Technology faculty and students by preparing laboratory apparatus, equipment, materials and supplies for use in student laboratories, for lecture demonstrations, conducting experiments and supporting research by faculty and/or students.
Responsible for supporting faculty in the Civil Engineering Technology program at Metropolitan State University of Denver such as mechanics of materials laboratory, soil mechanics/geotechnical laboratory, structures testing, demonstrations in fluid mechanics classes. Assist in the Senior Project I and II, the Experimental Methods in Structural Engineering, and the Introduction to Civil Engineering Technology courses. Support CET faculty in the experimental aspects of their research activities. Maintaining the equipment and instruments used by the students in the lab classes; preparing materials; teaching lab training sessions; assisting with demonstrations, reviewing laboratory reports; assembling apparatus for demonstrations; purchasing materials, supplies, and assisting program coordinator/Department Chair in laboratory equipment procurement. Provide preventive maintenance schedule and maintain equipment in the CET program. Coordinate with faculty and the MET laboratory coordinator in maintaining an inventory for tools and equipment in the laboratory.
Other duties regarding class/laboratory assistance in the Engineering Technology Department as assigned by Department Chair/Supervisor.
A minimum of Bachelors of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field. A minimum of two years of experience in civil engineering/structural engineering and experimental methods in structural engineering.
Masters of Science degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Knowledge in special structural engineering topics (i.e., refurbishment of structures, timber structures, composites and others). Familiarity with MTS Systems Corporation hydraulic testing equipment and data acquisition systems. Experienced in fatigue testing of wood and composite materials. Experience or ability to conduct purchasing in compliance with state and institutional fiscal rules. Experience conducting record keeping.
