The University of Alabama’s New College invites applications for a Full-Time Instructor in the area of the Undergraduate Magazine Publication and Book Arts. We seek a hands-on instructor with at least two years of teaching experience at the college level, experience as advisor for a student magazine, or experience as instructor for a magazine design and production course, and expertise in Book Arts. This full-time instructor position begins January 2015 and is renewable based on funding availability and performance review. Candidates engaged in ongoing artistic practice will receive special consideration. Candidates must successfully have completed at least a Master’s level program relevant to their field of artistic practice or academic study. Preference will be given to candidates with relevant MFA or PhD (terminal degree) credentials.
The successful candidate will be appointed to the University’s New College, which is within the University’s College of Arts and Sciences. She or he will teach courses in the Honors College, which offers advanced courses to exceptional students (potentially including applied Book Arts courses or courses on elements of Book Arts practice) and in New College’s interdisciplinary program (potentially including a magazine publication course, seminars focusing on Book Arts, or a seminar on creativity). Required also is the ability to advise a diverse group of students with varied interests in print and digital media production, arts, and creativity, including students with interests in administration or project management of creative pursuits.
