The Director of Database Administration and Data Warehousing is responsible for the management of all centralized databases and data warehouses to ensure that all data is highly available, accurate and secure. The Director provides data management and delivery services to the campus with clearly defined service level agreements and works collaboratively with faculty and staff to ensure joint responsibility for data stewardship, management and security.
Database Administration Provide database administration for all centralized databases according to industry best practices. Work with campus data stewards to manage data dictionaries and other data management systems to ensure the consistent collection, use and management of data assets. Provide database administration for all document management and content management systems. Configure, manage and maintain interfaces between databases and applications such as Banner Luminus, web servers, middleware and other software interfaces to ensure the delivery of highly reliable applications services to the campus. Provide database configuration, management and monitoring. Proactively monitor database security and usage. Ensure proactive and timely response to security and capacity planning events. Create and manage ongoing monitoring and audits to ensure data integrity, redundancy and failover. Lead disaster recovery planning and incident response for all data assets. Data Warehousing Responsible for the creation of operational data stores from production databases for the use by applications and reporting. Responsible for the design, maintenance and operations of code to extract, transform and load (ETL) data into intermediate and operational data stores. Responsible for the design, maintenance and operations of online analytical processing (OLAP) cubes for optimal usage of data stores. Responsible for the design, maintenance and operations of the university data dictionary and ensure the correct population of reporting databases for accurate results. Manage reporting systems and business intelligence tools (Cognos), and assist university departments in the use of these tools. Disaster recovery planning and incident response for all reporting functions.
A Bachelors degree from an accredited 4 year institution. Ten years working directly in the field of information technology with increasing levels of responsibility in the areas of database administration and data warehousing. Good oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership and strong operational management with general direction. Demonstrated ability to assess the technical quality of database and data warehouse plans and management activities. Demonstrated ability to manage large, complex projects and execute to project plans and budgets. Demonstrated ability to apply industry standards and best practices to the management of data asset, databases, data warehouses and interfaces to these systems. Demonstrated ability to collaborate with managers and lead cross-functional workgroups to ensure good data stewardship and the implementation of cohesive services that depend upon compliance with agreed upon management frameworks and standards.
Experience in the management of student information systems and financial information systems.
