Berklee College of Music is seeking applications for the position of Chair of the Music Therapy Department. As one of the largest music therapy programs in the United States, Berklee offers distinctive instruction at both undergraduate and graduate levels taught by faculty with diverse philosophies and clinical specialties. The curricula include innovations in contemporary music, music technology, and improvisation. In-class experiences complement an array of clinical music therapy practica in some of the most-respected healthcare centers and educational institutions in the greater Boston area.
Reporting to the Dean of the Professional Education Division, the Chair will serve as the academic and administrative leader of the Department. This is a 12-month administrative position with a renewable contract.
The Chair will be a credentialed music therapist and leader with a demonstrated record of administrative experience in higher education. S/he will have clinical experience, evidence of research/creative scholarship, strong leadership qualities, and managerial and organizational skills. S/he will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of constituencies on- and off-campus. The ideal candidate will be creative, compassionate, forward thinking, and possess a commitment to the education of music therapy students.
The start date for the position is August 2016.
