Detailed Job Description

The Barn Manager's responsibilities include, but are not limited to managing the day-to-day care and operations of the UA team horses, including daily hay and feeding, grooming, blanketing, shoeing, vetting, cleaning stalls, turning out horses and all health issues.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors and one (1) year of experience; OR High school diploma and three (3) years of experience.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Three (3) to five (5) years of equine management experience and an in-depth understanding of equine nutrition and care. Ability to work after normal work hours and on weekends during horse shows and when horses are ill. Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report as determined by the insurance carrier. Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.

Skills and Knowledge:

Applicants must have skills with handling large performance horses and equine management, including knowledge of equine nutrition, equine health issues, care and maintenance as well as an understanding of horses feet/shoeing issues and common horse health issues. Candidate must also have demonstrated organizational, animal management, interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to organize and handle multiple tasks at one time, interpersonal skills necessary to interact with student riders and coaches as well as demonstrated management skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with post-secondary education in equine studies or 5 years or more of experience in performance horse equine management will be given preferred consideration. Based on Qualifications
