Detailed Job Description

The Director of Learning Outcomes Assessment has the primary responsibility for implementing the college's outcomes assessment plan and serves as a resource and facilitator for assessment-as-learning to the schools and departments of the Division of Learning. Working with the Instructional Data Specialist, and overseeing Assessment Fellows, the Director of Learning Outcomes Assessment collaborates with faculty to enhance a culture of assessment. The Director assists chairs and faculty members in developing course and program outcomes and devises ways of assessing those outcomes. The Director maintains currency in the teaching-learning process to build credibility as a resource for best practices and builds support for student learning assessment models. The Director will: centralize reporting processes and tracking of program reviews, and course, program, and competency assessment; report annually on learning outcomes assessment and to fulfill state or accreditation requirements; and perform other duties related to enhancing systematic and useful assessment of student learning. In addition, in collaboration with appropriate campus committees and personnel, the Director will facilitate training of faculty, staff and students in the use of the institution's outcomes assessment system.  

Required Qualifications

Masters degree or higher in educational research, an academic discipline or related field required. Doctorate preferred.

Minimum of five years higher education work experience, including five years teaching experience, in assessment, measurement or educational evaluation required.

Minimum of five years experience in curriculum development required  

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge/experience in research design, quantitative and qualitative methods, and benchmarking.

Demonstrated competence using appropriate technology (such as software packages for data analysis).

Experience in instructional development and application of learner-based pedagogies that facilitate student learning (e.g., active/engaged learning strategies, technology assisted, etc.).

Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; excellent oral and written communication skills.

Experience in assisting in or developing with faculty the design of outcomes-based curriculum and application of learning outcomes assessment strategies/methodologies.

Experience in organizational change and the associated challenges in changing the organizational culture.

Understanding of the relevance of the college competencies to the workplace.

Knowledge of the "assessment-as-learning" perspective.
