Detailed Job Description



To manage day-to-day operations in the Athletic Communications Office for Saint Leo University’s 19-sport NCAA Division II athletics program, competing in the Sunshine State Conference. Position directly reports to the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications.

Basic Function:

  • Coordinate operations for the Athletic Communications office, including oversight of two full-time staff members (Manager of Athletic Communications and Manager of Athletics Multimedia) as well as student staff.
  • Serve as primary contact and keep updated statistics and game reports for assigned sports (currently men’s basketball, men’s/women’s lacrosse, and men’s golf for the remainder of 2015-16), and submit reports as needed to the NCAA and Sunshine State Conference.
  • Strategic travel with selected teams throughout the year.
  • Serve as host media coordinator for selected NCAA post-season events hosted by Saint Leo.
  • Supervise the administration of the athletics web site (, developing a proactive plan for website content and its on-ongoing development.
  • Preparation of game programs and other printed material; including but not limited to producing of game programs prior to every home athletic event in assigned sports, producing schedule cards, and programs for special events.
  • Develop social media strategy for Athletic Communications, and inform/communicate with administrators, coaches, and student-athletes on effective methods of social media interaction.
  • Assist with developing concepts for video content for the social media and the Athletics website as well as for webcasts, and keeps current of emerging technologies to promote Saint Leo Athletics.
  • Coordinating game day event management and production with relevant Athletics staff in facilities and operations for assigned sports.
  • Identify feature stories highlighting the athletic and academic achievements of Saint Leo student-athletes, and assist in outreach to local and hometown media.
  • Direct Saint Leo’s annual Green and Gold Awards celebration, and assist with other special events as needed (Athletic Hall of Fame induction, Moonlight Madness, President’s Club, National Girls and Women in Sport recognition).
  • Responsible for historical archiving of statistics, rosters, and additional information in assigned sports.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and/or the Assistant Athletics Director for Communications.

Required Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Management, Journalism, or related field.
  • Experience managing full-time and student employees (both Federal Work-Study and institutionally-funded).
  • Minimum three years full-time experience (as an intern/GA/assistant SID) in an intercollegiate sports information environment or athletic communications office.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various constituents on a wide variety of topics.
  • Must have outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated abilities on the following software packages: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (especially Photoshop and InDesign), and StatCrew/The Automated Scorebook in-game statistical software.
  • Experience with website content management systems; PrestoSports preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sport Management, Journalism or related field from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience in an intercollegiate sports information environment.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various constituents on a wide variety of topics.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  • Experience working with PrestoSports website content management system preferred.
