Under moderate supervision, using the on-line systems of the four cooperating libraries (Central State, University of Cincinnati, Miami University and Wright State University) performs a variety of duties in the receipt, processing, and correct placement of materials into and retrieval from the depository. Assists in planning, and carrying out, the operation of a large-scale storage facility in an environment that stresses teamwork and team processes. Assists in the de-duping project which includes the designation, removal, and replacement of items in the depository, and updating the corresponding institutional catalog records.
Using the four institutions’ on-line systems:
Retrieves materials for lending to other institutions (e.g. OhioLINK institutions and ILL.)
Provides electronic copies of articles for requesting libraries.
Uses the electronic systems for the delivery of information, e.g. Scanners, Computers, Fax, etc.
Prepares materials for placement into the depository.
Unloads, unpacks, inspects, verifies and assures the proper condition and receipt of materials received for placement into the depository.
Designates, retrieves, replaces, and updates the on-line records of items listed to be de-duped from the depository.
Operates an electric platform lift truck that lifts the operator to a height of 30 feet above the storage facility floor for the purpose of storing and retrieving materials.
Provides guidance to student employees in completing daily assignments as required.
Performs tasks that require walking, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), bending, stooping, carrying, climbing, etc. on a daily basis. Must be able to work in a temperature and humidity controlled environment (55 degrees F, 35% RH) for part of each day. Requires use of electric platform lift truck and other materials handling machines and equipment.
Alters shelving heights and adds shelves to insure maximum space utilization.
Aids in identifying policy and procedure issues and communicates them to supervisors.
Performs record-keeping tasks as necessary. Solves problems related to job responsibilities as appropriate or as directed.
Observes strict safety rules and housekeeping practices in performing assigned duties and maintaining work areas; follows established University and Department policies and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of library procedures; knowledge of computer and library research software; ability to motivate student employees. Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and standing with some lifting of materials weighing between 25-50 pounds. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant physical situations.
Requires six months of coursework beyond high school and one year of Library experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Computer experience and excellent interpersonal skills.
