Detailed Job Description

The Director, Infrastructure Services provides strategic and operational leadership for the College's integrated, reliable, high-quality information technology (IT) infrastructure services. The types of service include, but not limited to, LANs / WANs, wireless, servers, storage, data center operations, virtualization, cloud computing, telephony (VoIP), and network security.

This is a key IT leadership position supporting and reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), responsible for day-to-day operation of the infrastructure, setting strategic direction for infrastructure enhancements, and ensuring appropriate skillsets for personnel. The Director leads in establishing overall technical and network architectures; implementing security and operational requirements and standards; overseeing ongoing virtualized, operational systems, network, and data center operations; developing and executing annual budgets; and enhancing current department strategies, standards, processes and procedures.

-Ensure performance objectives are met for the comprehensive, integrated, reliable, high-quality IT Infrastructure services to the college.
-Develop and implement strategic plans and 'to-be' architecture to ensure infrastructure capacity meets existing and future requirements.
-Serve as internal project lead/manager for large scale infrastructure projects and provide oversight and guidance on solution architecture and design.
-Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for infrastructure administration and ensure compliance with organizational standards, practices and methodologies.
-Perform effective supervision of the Infrastructure Services staff including job definition and responsibilities, goal setting, coaching, employee communications and performance appraisals.
-Develop individual training plans, goals and objectives for personnel to ensure appropriate skillsets are maintained. Document and communicate a career path for individuals.
-Conduct research and make recommendations on products, services, protocols, and standards in support of all infrastructure procurement and development efforts.
-Collaborate with the college procurement team to ensure appropriate procurement processes are followed and assist in effective management of vendor relationships.
-Lead the Infrastructure Services team in the planning, acquisition, implementation, integration, and support of voice and data network hardware and software, and performance of routine maintenance.
-Direct the planning and performance of network and system availability including overseeing network architecture to provide redundant system in key areas.
-Participate in construction planning and oversee technology related areas of new construction and renovation projects. Communicate with vendors, customers, management, and technology staff.
-Prepare recommendations and effectively manage budgets for areas of responsibility.
-Lead the development, maintenance, testing and evaluation of appropriate disaster recovery and business continuity plans for all components of the College's IT infrastructure.
-Represent Information Services by serving on appropriate college committees to provide input about technology and its future direction.  

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in in a discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science or related discipline required.

Minimum of eight years Information technology (IT) experience including seven years of experience in development, implementation and management of enterprise IT infrastructure, progressing in complexity and responsibility, four years of experience in project management and leadership with demonstrated success in leading technical teams and executing technical projects, and five years of experience in leadership position managing/supervising medium to large size (10-20) infrastructure teams.

Demonstrated experience designing, building, deploying, migrating, and supporting enterprise infrastructure: Servers, Network, Storage, Backup, Virtualization, Cloud, Software, and Systems.

Experience in managing vendors, licensing and contracts.

Experience in building, maintaining and regularly testing business continuity and disaster recovery plans.

Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information in a clear manner to persons of varying technical expertise; provide clear directions and guidance to staff; gain cooperation of others; motivate staff in a positive manner; and collaborate with peers.

Demonstrated organizational, planning and negotiation skills.

Strong leadership and team building skills.

Ability to work a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the department.  

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree preferred/highly desirable.
Experience in higher education is preferred.
Knowledge of ITIL framework preferred.
