Detailed Job Description

This position performs professional level work in support of the research activities in the field and laboratory, for the tree fruit pathology research program, management and maintenance of pathogen culture collections, inoculum production, and tree or/and fruit inoculation. The incumbent will perform a wide range of duties including performing complex investigative procedures, laboratory analysis to accomplish research goals, collecting, processing and analyzing data, statistical analysis, and assist in preparing graphics and reports. Supervision of support staff will also be essential.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field of study or equivalent related field experience performing professional-level work with scientific or clinical research protocols. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Experimental and analytical skills; understanding and knowledge of research theory; interviewing experience; excellent organizational and project management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the basic techniques used in mycology and molecular biology or have the willingness to learn if hired.

Trained in operation of forklift and tractor.

Current certifications for respirators or the ability to obtain if hired.

Previous experience with orchards and postharvest environments is desired.
