Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Academic Success, this position is responsible for the management of the Brother to Brother (B2B) Program and the Fostering Success Program. The program coordinator will do the following: recruit, train, and supervise Peer Leaders and Interns; plan program events (programming); create marketing strategies; assist with data collection/tracking; program assessment; provide direct student support services; and, manage volunteer Faculty and Staff coaches. The Coordinator will assist with Peer Leader group development and enrichment workshops for both B2B and Fostering Success Students. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for collaborating with the Steering Committees, faculty, and staff, for maximum program development and effectiveness. The Coordinator will demonstrate success in the recruitment and retention of African American Males, Latino Males, and Emancipated Foster Youth and actively engage this experience and knowledge to assist students’ progress toward graduation.
(60%) Program management: Implement programming and other activities for the B2B and Fostering Success Program. This includes but is not limited to the following: Communication, support, and outreach to B2B and Fostering Success students, and success mentors/coaches. Provide support services to students through direct contact and programming. Support Services include the following: advising/coaching, assistance with class registration, career planning, referrals to appropriate resources on and off campus, assistance with financial aid forms; applications, and appeals, goal/future planning, encouraging students to participate in campus activities, academic guidance, and tracking of academic progress. This position will promote, support, and participate in multicultural and diversity initiatives to positively impact student retention and graduation rates. This position will also maintain a database (used for tracking and reporting) with participants in the program.
(20%) Supervision: This position will be responsible for selecting, hiring, and developing Peer Leaders and Interns to support the growth and management of both programs. The Coordinator must be able to provide quality supervision to Peer Leaders and Interns. Quality supervision includes the following: conducting performance evaluations, on time feedback, training, leadership development for Peer Leaders and Interns.
(10%) Marketing and Event Planning: This position will work with the Coordinator of Outreach to implement creative marketing strategies for the campus community regarding B2B and Fostering Success. Various forms of communication will be used in marketing to include social media, print, website content, email/text, and mediums. The coordinator will work with the Coordinator of Outreach to develop strategies to enhance student participation in B2B and Fostering Success events. This includes creating meaningful and interesting events that are specific to the needs of African American Males, Latino Males, and Emancipated Foster Students. The coordinator will evaluate/assess effectiveness of marketing strategies and events.
(5%) Assessment of programs: This position will assist in ongoing evaluation and assessment of student learning outcomes and student satisfaction of the B2B and Fostering Success Program. The Program Coordinator will assist with the creation of assessment tools, data collection, and reporting to continuously development new and innovative student support programs grounded in theory and best practices.
(5%) Perform additional duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Student Academic Success.
Bachelor’s degree in education, human behavior, counseling, or other closely related field.
Must have a minimum of two years related experience (post baccalaureate degree) working with students or clients in relation to academic or personal support.
Experience guiding students through or to higher education to include efforts focused on higher education access, major declaration, graduate school preparation, or career evaluation.
Experience working with foster youth or emancipated foster youth or traditionally under-served youth.
Experience working in a program or service focused on providing supportive services to African American Males or Latino Males.
Experience creating and implementing training or workshops.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
At least 1 year of experience providing supervision and performance management over staff.
Experience working with foster youth or emancipated foster youth.
Knowledge of the obstacles facing emancipated foster youth and their pursuit of higher education.
Knowledge of student retention theories and practices.
The incumbent will exhibit an interest in issues affecting African American Males, Latino Males and Emancipated Foster Youth.
Experience assisting students’ progress toward graduation.
Familiarity with various academic support initiatives.
Experience using research related to male students and emancipated foster youth to assist and support them in their goals.
A background and understanding of issues affecting diverse groups of male students.
A background and understanding of issues affecting diverse groups of emancipated foster youth.
Experience conducting data analysis of student learning outcomes and/or program evaluation for improvement.
