Detailed Job Description

The IT Technical Specialist IV performs advanced IT activities for specialized, complex and/or functional areas requiring the expert knowledge and professional application of IT principles, practices and techniques in accordance with industry standards and university policy. Requires a great amount of evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May be responsible for training, assisting or supervising lower level IT personnel and other staff. May lead projects and cross-functional activities.

Additional Department Summary:

The UNIX System Administrator analyzes, evaluates, designs, installs, modifies, and maintains operating system software and hardware components essential to efficient and reliable computer operation. Analyzes, evaluates, and tests new hardware and software for possible use on one of the University's computers, including desktop computers.

Required Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and 3 years of professional IT experience, OR Master's degree and 1 year of professional IT experience, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, education and/or certification from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been obtained. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional or security technology skills or knowledge of project management methods and applications. May require advanced level training or certification.

Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in a technical field, such as computer science, management information systems, or engineering. A thorough knowledge of internal computer operating system concepts and algorithms. Expertise in language and computer design and implementation, run-time environment, system utility usage, and data communications. A demonstrated proficiency in a commonly used scripting language. A demonstrated proficiency in a commonly used higher level program language (e.g.-"C"). A demonstrated proficiency in UNIX and UNIX operating systems. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Work experience demonstrating ability to manage the underlying systems on which the applications programmers, the programmer analysts, and system analysts work (along with advising programmers on the most efficient use of computing resources) and performs some of the same programming tasks done by programmers (as they relate to user facilities and management.) Computer knowledge and skills will be assessed during the selection process. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
