Responsibilities

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Development, the full-time exempt Major Gifts Officer (MGO) manages and builds a portfolio of 150 high-net worth prospects capable of making gifts in the $25,000 to $1,000,000 range.  Setting annual goals, the MGO participates in all aspects of the gift cycle, including initiating contact, developing and executing cultivation, solicitation, closure and stewardship strategies for each donor in the portfolio in an appropriate and timely fashion.  The MGO will maintain an average of 20 contacts per month, requiring a significant number of cold calls each week. In addition to closing major gifts, the Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for closing annual leadership gifts from a portfolio. 

 

The MGO serves as a staff liaison/development advocate for 2-3 campus programs and/or Schools, which includes staffing and coordinating volunteer boards and prospect screening efforts, coordinating cultivation and stewardship strategies and conducting solicitations with campus partners.  The MGO promotes the College’s fundraising priorities through developing excellent relationships with members of the Board of Trustees, Regents, key volunteers, and College staff.  The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the mission of the College, which is informed, animated, and expressed through its Catholic, Lasallian, and Liberal Arts traditions.


Experience and Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree required, along with five (5) years of increasingly successful experience in major gift or planned gift fund raising in higher education, non-profit, or similar setting. Professional experience in capital campaigns, knowledge of deferred giving vehicles, and entrepreneurial spirit is highly desirable. Shows demonstrated success and effectiveness in major gift prospect identification, cultivation, solicitation, closing, and stewarding major gifts ($25,000+). Demonstrated proficiency in Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.), and experience with donor information databases.

 
This highly-driven, self-directed, and goal oriented individual must have experience motivating development volunteers and exhibiting sensitivity to the needs of the donors, prospects, and campus partners. Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with a diverse community of faculty, staff, alumni, and donors and work collaboratively and strategically with campus leadership and development staff.   The high-energy candidate will demonstrate strong organizational skills; the ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects simultaneously while working calmly under the pressure of deadlines; personal initiative and achievement against goals; exceptional verbal and written communications skills, engaging interpersonal skills, and a great sense of humor.
