We are looking for a talented Web UX/UI Designer to join the world’s premier college of contemporary music. Our team consists of music performers and enthusiasts, passionate about working in an environment that is helping to shape the future of music education.

As a member of the Digital Strategy and Communications team, you will add your technical expertise, knowledge of best practices, and informed opinion to team discussions.  You will design and implement user interfaces that meet existing and anticipated user requirements for the college’s internal and public websites.  You will be part of a lean, fast-paced, collaborative team dedicated to building digital tools that support Berklee students, staff, faculty, and alumni.   

Key Functions:

  • Design usable, beautiful, responsive websites and applications
  • Create wireframes and interactive prototypes
  • Develop front-end web solutions using HTML5, CSS3, Sass, Bootstrap
  • Build and maintain our custom Drupal theme (see
  • Perform cross-browser testing, fix bugs, keep all our sites looking good
  • Customize third-party web applications

Required Skills

  • Proven ability to design and build usable, attractive, mobile-friendly user experiences
  • Mastery of basic front-end technologies: Javascript, Sass, HTML5 and CSS3
  • Experience developing themes and modules/plug-ins for CMS’s such as Drupal
  • Excellent presentation skills - ability to discuss design concepts and rationale
  • Working knowledge of scripting languages, SQL, databases, caching
  • Experience with the UNIX command line (we’re a Mac shop)
  • Familiarity with version control tools (we use Git)
  • Strong QA skills – able to review work and thoroughly test code
  • Effective working as part of a team, but also self-driven and organized

  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, PHP
  • Omnigraffle, Photoshop, Illustrator, InVision, Sketch
  • jQuery, Bootstrap, React.js
  • Mobile web development, responsive design
  • Designing and working with APIs
  • Active Directory, LDAP, SSO technologies
  • Agile software development, Test-driven development
  • Appreciation of good design and best practices
  • Experience with multimedia technologies (audio, video, streaming etc)
