Working with the Assistant Vice President, develops and implements alumni programs to engage Berklee’s 55,000 alumni with the college, students, and fellow alumni.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Working with the AVP, plans interactive outreach and events to increase college visibility and alumni engagement in priority geographic areas as set by the College leadership, with a focus on student and alumni careers, social networking and supporting enrollment. Expand alumni volunteer leadership and active regional networks.
  • Supervises three (3) full-time Alumni Affairs staff members and oversees hiring and management of student employees.
  • Manages Alumni Affairs calendar and budget.
  • Directs use of interactive media to expand alumni communications and programs, including production and distribution of monthly electronic newsletter, and input to Berklee today, the alumni magazine. Leverages social networking tools to increase alumni engagement with the college and each other, and support marketing initiatives.
  • Tracks, monitors, and analyzes performance of alumni programs, digital campaigns, and social media activities; provides regular assessment reports and strategies for future engagement.
  • Create a strategic plan for FY 2016 – 2018 to build on the growing success of the college’s alumni programming with a major focus on career services, professional development, networking opportunities and mentorship.
  • Develops and manages regional alumni- focused social, educational, and career programs and events:
    • Oversees engagement of leading alumni who may return to the school as speakers or Master Class faculty.
    • Manages promotion, marketing and registration process for these alumni-related programs and events. For example: Writes event descriptions to be published through electronic newsletters, direct email, print procures, invitations and the magazine.
    • Oversees and coordinates event logistics, including booking event space, arranging food and beverage, ordering supplies and audiovisual equipment.
    • Serves as Berklee Alumni Affairs Office ambassador and representative.
    • Evaluates event effectiveness and impact recording key measures like cost and attendance to guide future planning, including setting objectives and establishing budgets.
  • Manages alumni volunteer activities with the goal of expanding and enhancing alumni volunteer engagement. Programs to engage volunteers may include (but are not limited to) regional volunteer groups, reunions, prospective student engagement and recruitment, and student mentoring. 
  • Manages alumni affinity partners relationships including the Liberty Mutual Insurance program.
  • Coordinates with departments to engage alumni, create alumni programs, and foster communication between departments on all college initiatives that involve alumni including (but not limited to) Berklee Online, Berklee Valencia, Student Affairs, Enrollment and the Office of Experiential Learning. 
  • Evaluates requests made by other members of the college for communication, information, and/or events with alumni from their departments. 
  • As appropriate, serves as a member of campus cross-departmental boards including the Social Media Manager’s board, the Blog Manager’s Board, and the NESAC Reaccreditation Subcommittee.
  • Works with the Alumni Rep and Student Ambassador Coordinator to engage new alumni in the Admissions Alumni Rep program and volunteer opportunities with the Admissions department.
  • Develops and oversees alternative methods for delivering programming, volunteer training and communications including the use of webcasts, video, web/video conferencing and other distance-based technology.
  • Provides exceptional customer service, communicating professionally and effectively with staff, faculty, students, clients, alumni and campus visitors.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university
  • Five or more years working in a similar role: for a complex not-for-profit institution with documented experience in building strong alumni outreach programs virtually and in person, or demonstrated transferable skills from a similar, customer–oriented for-profit organization.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how alumni affairs interacts and is integral to a successful advancement program
  • High level of comfort and experience in interacting with individuals ranging from global leaders in their professional fields to applicants to the college (often deemed “alumni in training”)
  • Some familiarity with the music industry, contemporary music, leading musical figures, and music technology


Preference will be given to candidates that also display one or more of the following:

  • Advanced academic degree;
  • Five or more years experience in similar role;
  • Berklee alumna/alumnus
