Job Description:

Berklee is looking for an experienced Senior Designer — someone with innovative ideas and extensive visual design experience who can help accelerate the growth of the world's largest online music school.

The Senior Designer will be responsible for all aspects of shaping and stewarding the overall visual presentation of Berklee’s online school, including the conception, design, and execution of visual materials for integrated, cross­channel initiatives such as digital marketing, print advertising, direct marketing, email communications, and more. The Senior Designer will also work collaboratively with the Office of External Affairs to ensure that Berklee Online is aligned with branding and design efforts on campus. This position will report to the Associate Director of Marketing and at times, will work with freelance designers and interns to support general design production.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  1. Develop layout and design for all Berklee Online products including, and related marketing materials for print, online, and mobile platforms.

  2. Provide strategic direction and concept development for online projects, including web graphics/interactions and banner ads, from concept to implementation.

  3. Work in conjunction with interaction design and marketing to develop creative concepts from start to finish, according to business goals and requirements.

  4. Communicate design and interaction design decisions from a data­driven point of view to management team and stakeholders.

  5. Develop and maintain the overall brand identity of and all marketing collateral initiatives that integrate typographic, photographic, illustrative, graphic and interactive elements.

  6. Work closely with the marketing department to brainstorm and create design and campaign strategies.

  7. Collaborate with campus departments, including the Office of External Affairs, to maintain the visual consistency and alignment of Berklee Online with the rest of the college.

  8. Oversee and communicate design with stakeholders, UI developers, copywriters, and interns throughout campaign and development lifecycles.

  9. Manage relationships and workflow with external design contractors.

  10. Track and translate analytics research to data-driven design decisions.

  11. Work closely with front-­end developers to ensure design direction is translated seamlessly to effective web code.

Required Skills

  1. Ability to work within established brand guidelines and concept new ideas within a brand while maintaining visual continuity across several mediums and outlets.

  2. Strong leadership and teamwork skills, including the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders and communicate ideas clearly.

  3. Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills.

  4. Demonstrated skill in managing projects effectively to deliver on time and on ­budget. Must have the ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously with great efficiency and attention to detail.

  5. Must have a great attitude and be a self­-starter with the ability to work in a team-­based, fast ­paced atmosphere with high standards for quality and accuracy.

Required Experience

  1. Extremely creative individual with at least 5 years experience in developing designs for web, interactive, and print media in a professional advertising or design shop.

  2. Desktop publishing experience required, as well as proficiency with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, WYSIWYG editor and other graphic and media design and production tools.

  3. A solid understanding of designing intuitive site functionality, interaction, site architecture, user interfaces, and navigation. The ideal candidate for this role knows a product needs more than just a pretty face.

  4. Demonstrated understanding of Internet design issues (best practices, browser usability, cross platform compatibility, color and quick loading of images, etc.)

  5. Familiarity with today’s music styles, leading musical figures, and the basic structure/organization of the music industry.

  6. Fluency with latest interactive technologies and the latest industry trends.
