Detailed Job Description

Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Financial Aid, the Assistant Director is primarily responsible for a student caseload, including the counseling of students and parents about all aspects of financial aid, the verification of student eligibility and packaging. The Assistant Director will be responsible for managing the Federal Parent Plus Loan program, including reconciliation.

Main Duties: Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Counsel’s prospective and continuing students, and their families about available sources of financial assistance, eligibility requirements, and application procedures.
  • Manages a designated student caseload for verification processing, packaging of awards, and evaluation of financial aid appeals.
  • Manages the Federal Parent Plus Loan Program including the awarding, reconciliation and COD reporting
  • Prepares and updates written policies and procedures related to Federal Plus program.
  • Works closely with the Bursar and Business Offices in the monthly reconciliation of funds
  • Participates in college outreach activities with an emphasis in financial aid advising and services to 
current and prospective students.
  • Maintains compliance standards for federal and state financial aid programs; ensures conformance 
to federal, state, and institutional policies, procedures and regulations.

Required Skills

  • Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to relate to students and parents with diverse backgrounds and to work cooperatively as a member of the financial aid team.
  • Good organizational and analytical skills.  Must be able to work well with numbers and be able to interpret financial aid and tax forms.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop & maintain effective working relationships with individuals & organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences

Required Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial aid programs, regulations, and needs analysis
  • Knowledge of PowerFAIDS financial aid management system strongly preferred.
