Detailed Job Description

Reporting to the area Vice President, the Berklee City Music Network is responsible to manage, day to day, the organization and success of new and ongoing youth development programs and partners that extend Berklee City Music®. This includes active managerial oversight of the City Music Network (currently 46 sites throughout North America and Puerto Rico) and allied initiatives, like Amp Up NYC®, marshaling college and external partner participation and support to ensure success. The work includes growth, development of funding capacity and oversight of performance of the Berklee City Music Network, maintaining engagement in the Network’s regional chapters, and oversight of the annual City Music Summit.. In addition, the director is the area leadership team member responsible for the City Music Network Task Force.


  • Maintain and grow a portfolio of institutional, music and allied industry and individual donors and funders that contribute to City Music, City Music network partners, and more
  • Serves as an EOSE leadership team member. In this capacity partners with the associate vice present for education outreach and community affairs to ensure the area’s outreach team is successful, from goal setting to execution and future planning
  • Regular participation in and contribution to the success of Amp Up NYC, including ensuring the college meets and exceeds its responsibilities in meeting some of the initiative’s performance goals and metrics, particularly around partner development and support
  • Collaborates with the City Music dean to grow the community of PULSE users in the City Music Network, Amp Up NYC, and beyond, and seeks funding and support for the state of the art online music learning resource
  • Responsible to meet and exceed an annual contribution to fundraising and development for City Music and allied partnerships
  • EOSE leadership team member responsible for the operations and marketing of the annual Berklee City Music Summit
  • Travels regularly to develop and support Berklee City Music Network sites to build capacity and fundraising
  • An area liaison to college Institutional Advancement

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The City Music Network Director supervises the Assistant Director for the City Music Network and the City Music Network Project Manager.

Required Experience

  • Masters degree in education or non-profit management
  • 10 years demonstrated experience in management and development in education or allied non-profit organizations
  • Demonstrated success in relationship development and fundraising, as well as organizational management
  • Experience working in the culture of academia and public education, as well as youth development
  • Evidence of successful ongoing participation in public speaking
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop & maintain effective working relationships with individuals & organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives & experiences.
