Detailed Job Description

The Department of Mathematical and Computer Sciences, Metropolitan State University of Denver, is seeking applications for one tenure-track faculty position in Mathematics Education beginning August 2016.


Teach 12 hours of undergraduate and graduate mathematical methods and mathematics courses per semester, including courses for students seeking teacher licensure and in the Mathematical Sciences major. Teaching requirements include evenings and perhaps on-line courses and courses in the freshman success program using multimedia and other technologies as needed. The MSU Denver Mathematics Teaching and Learning group is actively involved in both pre-service teacher preparation at all levels and grant supported work in schools. The successful candidate will be expected to participate fully in these activities. The position also involves supervising student teachers; advising students; participating in course and program development and coordination; continuing scholarly and professional activities; performing university and community service; assisting with obtaining grant funding; performing other duties as assigned by the Chair; and must have the ability to work with and be sensitive to the educational needs of a diverse urban population.

Required Qualifications

Doctorate in Mathematics Education, or Mathematics,


Another related field with at least 18 hours of graduate-level mathematics courses completed by August 1, 2016.

Preferred Qualifications

The successful candidate will have strong oral and written communication skills;

Evidence of potential for continued scholarly activity; and activity in the mathematics education community.

Special consideration will be given to candidates with knowledge of and experience with current trends in K-12 and University-level Mathematics Education including distance education delivery;

Experience teaching with a variety of pedagogical approaches and instructional techniques;

Demonstrated successful teaching experience at the K-12 level.

Experience with equity and diversity in Mathematics Education;

Experience working on and/or obtaining grant funding;

Experience working in STEM collaborations.

Experience working with and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse urban student population including (but not limited to) students of color, LBGTQIA students, students from low-income backgrounds, first-generation students, students with disabilities, undocumented students, non-traditional students, student veterans, and English-language learners.
