Assists the Director and other Assistant Director in the administration and management of all Outdoor Pursuit Center (OPC) programs and operations (trips and workshops, KNH Courses, challenge course programs, climbing center, living learning communities and rental/retail area). This position serves to provide program staff management, facility coverage, and supervision of special events as needed.
Required to perform duties with limited supervision and will be required to make significant independent decisions.
Research, plans and administers all Climbing Wall programs and Adventure Trip programs.
Instructs Kinesiology and Health (KNH) Rock Climbing courses, and other academic courses.
Oversees and administers the 1st or 2nd Year Outdoor Leadership Living Learning Community (ODL LLC).
Instructs Educational Leadership (EDL) 290, Nature of Outdoor Leadership course.
Coordinates and leads day and overnight trips for the ODL LLC members.
Plans, coordinates and leads weekend field experiences for KNH and EDL courses.
Assists the Director with planning, recruiting and instruction of academic study-away programming.
Manages and supervises the Climbing Wall route setting program and staff.
Recommends, regularly updates and implements policies and procedures for OPC programs and services.
Direct and functional supervision of 15 – 20 student staff.
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates student employees at the Climbing Wall.
Recruits, hires, trains, supervises and evaluates Adventure Trip Staff.
Plans and executes extended trainings and in-service trainings for the Climbing Wall and Adventure Trip staff.
Assists with supervision of all other OPC program area student staff.
Conducts regular safety assessments of facilities, vehicles and equipment and takes appropriate action.
Purchases and maintains inventories for program area equipment and supplies.
Assists the Director in development of OPC strategic plans, goals and objectives, and program assessments.
Provides facility coverage and assists with other departmental special events as needed.
Assists the Director and other Assistant Director in the development of reports on program participation, activities, incomes, expenses, and evaluates program data to provide documented justification for program proposals and budget or personnel adjustments.
Assists in the management of student and classified payroll system for all OPC staff.
Attend regional and national conferences/meetings.
Completes other duties as assigned.
Current CPR and First Aid certification (or ability to be acquired within 30 days of hire date);
Current Wilderness First Responder certification
1 – 2 years supervisory experience
Valid driver's license
Master’s degree in recreation or related field
AMGA Single Pitch Instructor or equivalent certification
