Detailed Job Description
Administers and maintains enterprise-level Information Technology (IT) systems which may include data center infrastructure, server hardware, system software, and applications. Enforce procedures and solve technical issues to ensure availability, reliability, stability, and scalability of systems. Provide problem escalation support as required.
With general direction, administers and maintains enterprise level IT systems, which may include network hardware, server hardware, system software, and applications. Assist with the planning and implementation of large, complex enterprise level systems to support core organizational functions. This includes new installation and configuration of systems and application along with general maintenance, security, and vendor-supplied updates, basic administration, adhoc reporting, and execution of processes and procedures for ongoing management of the systems environment.
Level I: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field; OR any combination of higher education and work experience related to Information Technology totaling four years.
Level II: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, plus one year of work experience administering and maintaining of enterprise-level IT systems; OR any combination of higher education and work experience totaling five years related to Information Technology, three of which must be directly related to the administering and maintaining of enterprise-level IT systems. In addition, requires successful completion of one current industry recognized certification within the first year of employment that is directly related to the administering and maintaining of enterprise-level IT systems.
Level III: Graduation from an accredited institution with an bachelor's degree in Information Technology or related field, plus three years of work experience administering and maintaining of enterprise-level IT systems; OR an associate degree in Information Technology or related field, plus five years of work experience in Information Technology, four of which must be directly related to the administering and maintaining enterprise-level IT systems; OR any combination of higher education and work experience totaling seven years related to Information Technology, four of which must be directly related to the administering and maintaining of enterprise-level IT systems. In addition, a successful completion of one current industry recognized certification that is directly related to the administering and maintaining enterprise-level IT systems is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
1- Knowledge and experience in customer service, team oriented, collaborative environment; highly self-motivated with the ability to learn quickly.
2- Knowledge of TCP/IP, application network protocols, firewall management, operating system configuration, anti-virus software, and relational database(s).
3- In depth knowledge with troubleshooting hardware and software problems and the researching of technical issues.
4- Experience working with and the ability to work with Ellucian/SCT Banner, MS Active Directory, T2 Parking, Symphony Library, Crestron Media, Crystal Reports, Lenel, Blackboard Transact System, Banner Job Submission, Business Object Server, SQL, PL/SQL, MySQL, SQL Server, and MS Access.
5-In depth Knowledge with operating systems and their standard applications, services, and processes such as web servers, e-mail services, file systems, performance management, back-up/restore, and access control. Knowledge of federal copyright laws as they pertain to the use of computer software.
7- Skilled in developing strategies for improving the effectiveness and efficiency of existing systems or processes.
8- Skilled in writing documentation, capacity planning, system design, customer service, technical training, security audits, mentoring of junior team members. Skilled in data automation, system integration, and programming.
9- Ability to present ideas in a user-friendly language. Ability to collaborate with other systems administrators and technical personnel on campus on technical issues.
10- Ability to communicate with all members of the campus community including faculty, staff and students regarding technical and non-technical issues.
11- Ability to work in a team as well as independently.
12- Ability to perform business process analysis on campus systems and processes.
