PART-TIME FACULTY POSITION/ PART TIME DIRECTOR, OPHTHALMIC ASSISTANT CERTIFICATE PROGRAM: Division of Health Professions, iHealth, Lawrence Campus (MCCC/MTA Unit Position) Anticipated Start Date: January 23, 2013
Part time Program Director/faculty to work 15 hours per week to guide the continued development and implementation of a new certificate program in Ophthalmic Assisting and prepare the program for accreditation with the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) and Commission on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs (CoA-OMP). Develop clinical affiliates for the student’s clinical practicum courses, develop program outcomes and establish a program evaluation system. Determine the essential equipment required for use in the ophthalmic laboratory and assist in the design of the laboratory for the Ophthalmic Assistant Program. Develop and teach Ophthalmic Assisting courses in a hybrid/online format in our iHealth initiative. Faculty complete an on-line iTeach development course beginning in January 2013.
Bachelor’s degree in ophthalmologic science, education, or related area. Hold current certification with the Joint Commission on Allied health personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO) at the level of a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant or higher (ophthalmic technician and ophthalmic medical technologist). Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an Ophthalmic Assistant or Ophthalmic Medical Technologist. Knowledge of current Commission on Accreditation of Ophthalmic Medical Programs (CoA-OMP) accreditation requirements and JCAHPO certification procedures. Demonstrated ability to teach within, and contribute positively to, a diverse, multi-ethnic, multi-cultural student population and campus environment. Knowledge of curriculum development, implementation and assessment, including evidence in employing instructional methods and technique appropriate to different learning styles. Demonstrated ability to work collegially as a leader and a team member.
Preferred: Master’s degree in a related discipline. Previous teaching experience at the community college level. Sense of humor. Bilingual (Spanish and English).
Salary: Salary range is at a rate of $35.00/per credit hour for 15 hours per week for Program Director duties. $4,000.00 additional compensation for the initial development of a course in the iHealth hybrid/online format. No fringe benefits.
