Detailed Job Description

Position: Researcher I - Fisheries biologist: Two full-time, term, professional researcher positions with the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Center for Fisheries, Aquaculture, and Aquatic Sciences.

Qualifications: B.A. or B.S. in Biology, Fisheries, or Aquaculture (M.S. preferred). Prior knowledge and experience operating boats and a minimum of one year of relevant fisheries field experience is required. Additional relevant experience may also include maintaining aquaculture or pond facilities, fisheries research techniques using telemetry equipment, hydroacoustics, sampling fish, setting gill and trammel nets, or operating electrofishing equipment.

Duties: Including, but not limited to: operation of boats, routine collection and identification of riverine fishes, surgical implantation of acoustic transmitters, data collection and analysis for reports or publications. The successful candidate must make multiple overnight trips for field work (up to 100 nights per year), work long hours under adverse weather conditions, maintain a valid driver's license, and routinely lift 50 pounds.
