Detailed Job Description

SIU Carbondale, College of Business seeks an Online Undergraduate Program Specialist for a twelve month, 100% administrative professional position in the College of Business. This position is a renewable term appointment and is contingent on availability of funding.

Responsibilities: This position will be a key staff person within the College of Business Dean's Office. The primary focus of this position will be supporting the College's online undergraduate programs. Position Responsibilities will include:

  • Learn the structure and method of course delivery and be able to train and supervise future teaching assistants as needed.
  • Assist students via email or phone as needed. This may involve assisting students outside regular work hours.
  • Monitor/maintain on-campus exam schedules. This may involve communication with Testing Services and students.
  • Assist with coordinating/monitoring remote proctoring of exams.
  • Monitor student participation. This may involve communication with teaching assistants, program coordinator, students, and/or advisors.
  • Learn/apply video editing to edit and evaluate lecture videos.
  • Maintain textbook information. This may involve communication with book publishers.
  • Work with online program coordinator to maintain/develop online courses delivered through the learning management system (BryteSpace) and third party software.
  • Learn and apply online technology as needed to meet changing demands of course delivery and communications with students.
  • Support online program coordinator with communications to students.
  • Assume the role of teaching assistant as needed.
  • Serve as backup during the absence of the Online Undergraduate Program Coordinator.
  • Work with College of Business staff to promote and grow the online undergraduate programs.
  • Maintain databases/spreadsheets for instructor evaluations and program assessments and evaluations.
  • Expected to use Banner, ARGOS, Excel in addition to online educational technologies.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in business, education, communication, or related field;
  • Minimum of three semesters of work experience in a university environment involving direct contact (online or face-to-face) with students in teaching, teaching assistant, training, workshop, or related role;
  • Experience using Excel;
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply technology; and
  • Receptive to meeting needs of online student population outside normal work-day hours.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated experience working with Web software;
  • Experience with student support systems such as learning management systems, Banner, Argos, etc.
