Seeking two full-time non-tenure track faculty at rank of Instructor to serve as Site Program Coordinators (two separate locations - Joliet, IL, and Mt. San Antonio College, Walnut, CA) for the Fire Service Management Program, School of Architecture, College of Applied Sciences and Arts, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The individuals in these positions report to the School Director via the Program Coordinator, Fire Service Management, School of Architecture, College of Applied Sciences and Arts, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. These positions are contingent on available funding and are effective Fall 2015.
Function: The person in this position will be responsible for growth and continuity of the Fire Service Management program in their area of responsibility as defined by the Director, School of Architecture and the Program Coordinator. To assist with recruitment of new students to the program through visits to local and regional fire stations, community colleges, and industry connections. Working with main campus they will help provide oversight for input for curriculum review and course development. They will evaluate professional certificates and make recommendations for granting credit. Will serve as faculty for the Fire Service Management Program.
Responsibilities: Engage in recruitment and retention of Fire Service Management students; Engage in the recruitment of fire science instructors; Secure and maintain partnerships with the fire fighting industry and schools in their assigned areas; Remain abreast of developments in the fire fighting industry; Participate in Fire Service Management Advisory Board meetings; Provide suggestions for membership on the Fire Service Management Advisory Board; Participate in curriculum review and course development with the Program Coordinator; Represent the Fire Service Management program to Fire Service affiliated organizations where necessary; Participate in the review and selection of course materials and text books; Assist in the evaluation of professional certifications and work experience for granting credit to students; Engage in other assignments as determined by the Program Coordinator or School of Architecture Director; Teach one class per semester as part of their workload.
Required Qualifications: Master's degree in Education, Administration, or a related field. Three years experience working on student recruitment and retention, and marketing to allied areas. Understanding of academic curriculum and enrollment processes; Fire Training Officer III or Master Instructor Certification from a State Fire Marshall Agency; minimum of 10 years fire fighting experience.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience in Fire Service Management Education, Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal skills, and organizational abilities. Strong work ethic, character, and personal integrity, and ability to work independently.
