Under general supervision, acts as support to the cytotechnology staff and the pathologist; performs setup of the stations for the lab; supports the collection of specimens within the various hospital locations as necessary; maintains organized testing stations; distributes specimens and/or reports to other labs and clients.
Familiar with medical terminology and transcription
Familiar with laboratory information systems and troubleshooting
Ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced, intense environment
Familiar with slide straining techniques and slide preparation
General knowledge of good laboratory practices and asceptic technique
Education and experience equivalent to an Associate’s degree supplemented with one (1) to three (3) years of experience. Bachelor’s degree and experience in a clinical setting preferred.
Accessions and processes GYN/PAP and non-GYN/FNA specimens according to laboratory procedures.
Accompanies and provides support to physicians on FNA (Fine Needle Aspirations).
Sets up and cleans stainer and other laboratory equipment; maintains clean and organizes laboratory workspace.
Distributes laboratory supplies and/or reports as necessary.
Performs other duties as assigned.
