The Library Department is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position as Distance Learning Librarian at our main campus in Saint Leo, Florida.
This is a twelve month, full-time faculty appointment at the Assistant rank.
Review of candidate materials begins immediately for immediate start date. To apply, submit letter of introduction documenting successful teaching experience; curriculum vitae; three letters of recommendation (all should be professional references and at least one from a recent superior); values statement (500 words or less) and teaching philosophy (500 words or less), which highlights how your teaching and administrative philosophy and practices fit the Mission and Values of Saint Leo University; official transcripts (including WES evaluation if from an international university).
A candidate must possess a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program.
Provide library support (from University campus) for students in the Distance Learning program.
1) Perform Statewide Ask-a-Librarian hour for the library.
2) Co-edit the library blog directed toward online students detailing online resources.
3) Create and record mini-tutorials for DL content courses.
4) Provide library instruction and reference follow-up with DL and other students as required.
5) Prepare LibGuides for DL courses as required.
6) Create video tutorials/customized video support for DL students
7) Coordinate with DL program concerning library support.
8) Staff reference desk with weekly scheduled hours.
9) Coordinate the building and maintenance of a LibAnswers knowledge database.
•Proven knowledge of a wide range of print, electronic and Internet-based reference tools and databases.
•Experience in bibliographic instruction (academic and online instruction).
•Evidence of awareness of current trends in librarianship and information technology.
•Educational background in the liberal arts and sciences or business.
•Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
•Ability to work in a complex, team-based environment and with a diverse user group.
•Knowledge of and interest in creative use of technology in library instruction, specifically online instruction.
•Strong service orientation.
•Demonstrated teaching ability.
•Proven ability to maintain currency with library-related applications.
•Flexibility-some weekend hours are required.
ALA-accredited MLS required.
2 years post-MLS experience in academic library public service preferred.
Second master’s degree preferred.
