Detailed Job Description

Academic Advisors provide a safe, non-judgmental, and comfortable advising atmosphere where students are encouraged to grow intellectually and personally. Advisors assist students make positive decisions that help them move forward in their academic lives, challenging students to stretch their strengths and experience new things, and use their time in the university as a learning experience. Academic Advisors can assist students in planning and accessing all areas of the curriculum, including, education abroad, major selection, and minors.  

Additional Description of Duties:

Advisors provide in-depth academic counseling and developmental advising to all Bentley undergraduate students while maintaining accurate records of all sessions. The position requires in-depth knowledge of all areas of the curriculum including, education abroad, major selection, honors advising, the liberal studies major and minors.

Establish and maintain collaborative and supportive relationships with Department Chairs, Student Life staff, and faculty affiliated with the respective disciplines/programs of specialization. As a secondary assignment, position may oversee complex advising related administrative tasks related to processing of transfer credits for current Bentley students.  

Position Qualifications

Master's degree (preferably in education, university student personnel, counseling, or related field) strongly preferred.

1 to 3 years of academic advising or related higher education experience strongly preferred. Good interpersonal communication (oral and written) and organizational skills.

Experience and commitment to working with a diverse student body. Able to work in a fast-paced environment of constant change and variety. Ability to relate well to students, faculty, staff and parents.

Skills to analyze complex data and provide strategies for using technology and other resources to provide support to students. Proficient in using spreadsheets, databases and word-processing.
