Under general supervision, provide coverage of courier routes, general preventive maintenance for specific instruments, storage and retrieval of specimen blocks and slides. Utilize clinical and administrative computer systems as needed (i.e., Laboratory Information System, EPIC, IDX, Google, Microsoft Office, etc.). Perform general laboratory assistant functions as required.
Knowledge of medical terminology
Experience with using computers and office equipment
Ability to follow multi-step directions with minimal supervision
Ability to discern when to ask for help when managing multiple priorities
Competence in written and verbal communications
Excellent interpersonal/human relations skills
Ability to maintain records and files
Ability to learn and aplly institutional policies and procedures
Ability and commitment to maintaining strict confidentiality
High school education; supplemented with 1-3 years’ experience in a laboratory or other clinical environment.
Performs courier duties.
Performs preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments and keeps inventory for instrument supplies.
Performs lab assistant duties in laboratories (filing blocks, slides, requisitions, specimen sorting and preparation, glass washing).
Performs accessioning, QA and clerical duties for laboratories.
Prepares conferences for residents and pathologists by pulling slides and organizing templates.
Performs other duties as assigned.
