The Student Advisor has responsibility for increasing GEAR UP students’ access to honors and AP academic programs, positive academic behaviors, family connection to critical school based information, post secondary access support (student and families,) and providing auxiliary support for academic and civic engagement.
This position will support key program components, including tutoring services, career exploration, and post-secondary preparation. This position will work at Kennewick High School in Kennewick, WA.
The GEAR UP program is funded with federal funds by the Department of Education grant whose purpose is to increase the number of low-income and underrepresented students who graduate from high school and successfully complete post secondary education.
Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year‐for‐year basis.
-Master’s degree in education, counseling, or related field.
-Professional first-hand experience motivating low-income or disadvantaged youth aged 11-19 to remain in school and participate in a post-secondary educational opportunity.
-Demonstrated knowledge of school programs, motivating for student success, and the school community and/or parental involvement in community and/or school settings.
-Bi-lingual/Bi-literate in English and Spanish.
NOTE: This is a 10 month; 87.5% FTE position (35 hours/week).
