Detailed Job Description
The Director for First Year Experience and Parent Programs will create a vision and strategic plan for long-term growth and improvement of programs and resources provided to freshman, transfer students, and all parents.
Additional Department Summary:
The Director for First Year Experience and Parent Programs guides the day to day operations of the department, including, but not limited to: planning and assessment of programs, the ability to collect, analyze and assess data related to new student success, oversight of budgets, and evaluation of new student needs in order to develop new programs and resources to align with those needs. Working with a team, the person in this position will work to improve student retention, engagement, and transition to The University of Alabama. This position will provide oversight to the Parent Advisory Council and will serve as the primary person responsible for parent emergency alerts. Other programs in which this position will provide oversight, guidance and leadership include: Parent Orientation, Camp 1831, Freshman Forum, Transfer Student Initiatives, Family Weekend, Ignite UA, Out to Lunch, Transition Talks, A-Book, and communication to all constituents. This position will report to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and a minimum of three (3) years of experience.
Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications:
Masters Degree and three years of professional experience. Knowledge of Student Development Theory and experience in developing a curriculum based on this theory, knowledge of assessment practices, experience supervising professional staff members. Ability to work nights and weekends. Valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 21 years of age and have an acceptable motor vehicle report as determined by the insurance carrier.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of First-Year Student Programming, Parent Programming, strong leadership/supervision ability; strong human relations skills; organizational and communication skills; ability to work effectively with a variety of students, parents, faculty/staff; strong oral and written communication skills; effective student advising style.
Doctorate degree. Five years experience in Higher Education setting. Experience working with first-year students, retention initiatives, and parent programs. Experience in planning/coordinating extended orientation. Experience working with parents in a college setting. Knowledge of transfer student needs and best practices. 59 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 43887.96 Midpoint - $ 63648.00
