To oversee and participate in the coordination, conduct and analysis of complex clinical research studies and to apply an extensive background of knowledge and experience with infant, children, adolescent and adult study subjects, allowing for an intuitive grasp of given situations. To act as a leader within the department/division through improving clinical research practice and serving s a resource within the department/division of SLU School of Medicine, Cardinal Glennon Children’s Medical Center and the community.
Knowledge of University policies and procedures; excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to relate to diverse age and demographic backgrounds; capable of utilizing research technique in application to nursing practice and serving as a resource for educational opportunities in these areas; Possess organization, analysis, demonstrate an independent work initiative and prioritization abilities, sound judgment, problem-solving skill, diplomacy and a professional demeanor; Possess motivation to promote continuing education, improved nursing and resarch practice and meet deadlines; Ability to adapt work schedule to meet the needs of study subjects; May require a valid driver’s license for making off-campus visits and transporting specimens or supplies.
Education and experience equivalent to: Bachelor’s degree and three (3) to five (5) years of experience. Master’s degree preferred. Should have background in Pediatrics. Clinical experience preferred.
Coordinate conduct of complex clinical studies by preparing personnel and materials for recruitment, enrollment and follow up. Play an active role in developing, implementing and evaluating changes in the conduct of clinical research. Prepare protocols for review by the Institutional Review Board.
Serve as a resource for other research nurses and coordinators regarding all aspects of conducting a clinical trial, including recruiting strategies, regulatory requirements of the government and industrial sponsors, and study management. Act as an administrative agent of the primary investigator in communicating with Industry, other divisions of SLU School of Medicine or other Institutions in coordinating studies. Lead activities designed to improve organizational performance through recommending areas or approaches for improving new procedures, collecting data and providing input to department discussions.
Continuously update knowledge of regulatory issues regarding the conduct of clinical studies and disseminate information to investigators and nursing staff. Organize, direct and participate with clinical staff including other Research personnel, in enrolling and following participants through studies in accordance with regulatory requirements in a timely manner. Prepare documents for conduct of studies including recruitment, consent and advertising. Maintain all records, comply with hospital and University policies.
