Job Description:

Bunker Hill Community College has partnered with Single Stop USA to provide services to reduce the impact of poverty on students and their families. The program will help increase access to government benefits, tax credits, and other critical support services such as legal counseling and financial planning, all in a convenient "one-stop" location. The Academic Counselor will be the point of contact for students, responsible for intake and assessment, referrals, documentation, and follow-up.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with community agencies. Serves as the point of contact for students, the College community and external partners on issues related to Single Stop services.
  • Conducts intake and assessment for Single Stop participants.
  • Presents financial literacy workshops: Budgeting, understanding credit, improving credit scores, and financial aid.
  • Facilitates referrals to partnering agencies.
  • Follows-up with students and partnering agencies regarding referrals and outcomes.
  • Documents all student contacts, referrals and outcomes in the Program's case management  database, in an accurate and timely manner.
  • Assists in marketing to students.
  • Assists in program research, development and assessment and participate in ongoing trainings.


  • Master's degree in Education with three years' experience relevant to the position's responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience dealing with individuals in crisis situations.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
  • Computer software skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Datatel, Zogotech, or equivalent.
  • Ability to work independently and on a team and collaborate with multiple college departments and community agencies.
  • Commitment to BHCC's mission and Single Stop USA goals and objectives.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred work experience with community service agencies in and around Boston.
  • Preferred knowledge of state and federal regulations as they pertain to low-income students and the veteran population.
  • Preferred experience with presenting financial literacy workshops (Ex: Understanding credit, budgeting, improving credit score, financial aid)
  • Preferred experience interfacing with local/federal veteran agencies.

Additional Information

Salary Range:  $50,785.00- $62,212.00. Actual Salary Will Be Commensurate With Education and Experience in Accordance with MCCC/MTA Collective Bargaining Agreement. Full state Benefits.

Hours needed: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 10:00 a.m.-6:00p.m. and Thursday 11:00a.m. -7:00p.m.

Grade: 5, Unit-Professional position
