Under the direction of the Chemistry Department, Assistant Professor- Chemistry prepares and teaches courses in lower-division and upper division chemistry; serves on department, college, and university committees; maintains currency in academic field(s) of expertise; produces scholarly work; engages in professional development activities; and, assists in curriculum and program development. Coordinates and oversees the development and operation of the CHEM 1215/1225 freshmen laboratories, and supervises lab teaching staff. May be assigned by the department chair to teach other discipline related lecture or lab courses as needed.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a Ph.D. in Chemistry or related required.
Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content required.
Demonstrated successful teaching at the college or university level for two or more years is preferred. Expertise in analytical or inorganic chemistry is preferred.
Knowledge of chemistry.
Knowledge of laboratory protocols, procedures, and practices within the relevant field of study.
Knowledge of safety standards for the use of laboratory equipment, facilities, and supplies.
Knowledge of handling laboratory materials, receiving, storage and safety procedures.
Knowledge of instrumentation and software applicable and appropriate in general chemistry laboratories.
Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
Knowledge of curriculum development and program development and evaluation.
Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation.
Knowledge of evaluation/assessment of instruction.
Knowledge of current trends in education.
Knowledge of cooperative work experience programs.
Knowledge of student recruitment methods.
Skills in effective instructional strategies and techniques in chemistry.
Skills in inorganic and analytical chemistry laboratories.
