Detailed Job Description

The successful applicant performs some or all of the following duties:
-Designs and teaches courses in specific subject matter.
-Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study with measurable objectives.
-Prepares instructional materials, including instructional packets, syllabi, tests, handouts, electronic presentations, visual aids, etc.
-Instructs, manages, and supervises students, individually and in groups, in the classroom and laboratory.
-Evaluates instruction and learning through written, oral, practical, and performance testing.
-Assists with advancement and graduation activities.
-Assists with acquisition and maintenance of equipment, tools, reference materials, etc.
-Maintains appropriate office hours.
-Works with staff, administration, counselors, faculty, high school teachers, and an advisory committee to develop and advance program mission, goals, and course offerings.
-Continuously improves and updates courses to accommodate industry requirements.
-Keeps abreast of new technologies, trends, techniques, and developments by attending training seminars, workshops, industry work experience, etc. and by reading and researching industry publications, reference manuals, etc. to ensure long-term legitimacy of the program.
-Serves on committees and attends meetings as necessary.  

Minimum Qualifications

While a PhD is preferred, this position requires a minimum of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to Automation Technology or Mechatronic Technology. Typical degrees are in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology. Additional requirements include five (5) years of industrial experience designing automation systems or working in high volume precision manufacturing.  

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

1. At least two years of actual programing and troubleshooting of PLC systems.
2. Previous teaching experience preferred.
3. Experience with operation and maintenance of automation systems.
4. Expertise in designing mechanical or electrical elements of automation systems.
5. Expertise in factory floor network systems.
6. Experience with SolidWorks or other 3-D software
7. Industrial affiliations that will lead towards student coop experience, senior projects, or faculty involvement.
8. Ability to construct and test prototypes.
9. Experience with supervision of undergraduate research project.
10. Knowledge of curriculum development.
11. Knowledge of evaluation/assessment of instruction.
12. Public speaking and presentation skills.
13. Technical writing skills.
