Detailed Job Description

The Earlham School of Religion (ESR) seeks candidates for a full time teaching faculty appointment in Christian Spirituality. We seek candidates with both academic and practical experience in the area of Christian spirituality, and for whom the Quaker tradition of spirituality is integral to their teaching and practice. At a minimum, academic preparation should include the M. Div.; a Ph.D. in spirituality or related fields is preferred.  Teaching experience and practice in spiritual direction is necessary.

The person holding this appointment will teach up to six courses per year in semester long, two-week, on-line and blended formats, and provide leadership for the annual spirituality conference. Sample courses include Spiritual Formation and Personal Practice, History of Christian Spirituality, Prayer, and Individual Spiritual Direction. The successful candidate will also be invited to develop courses relevant to their own interests so long as they support the objectives of the M. Div. program. Academic advising, committee service, and participation in the life of the seminary community are also expectations for this appointment.

Applicants from the Religious Society of Friends, women, and minorities are encouraged to apply.  Review of applications will begin in January and the search will continue until the position is filled, though it is desirable that the position be filled in fall of the 2016-17.
