The IT Technical Specialist III performs advanced professional IT activities for a specialized, complex assignment or functional area requiring application of an advanced professional knowledge of IT principles, practices, and procedures. Requires evaluation, originality or ingenuity. May supervise and/or direct the work of project teams or other lower level staff.
Additional Department Summary:
The Digital Access Coordinator will focus on current and future access, and responsiveness to user needs. Incoming digital content from donors and creators will be protected, tested, and analyzed for security, access, preservation and use options. The Digital Access Coordinator will review current trends and developments in the field, and will develop workflows and write or modify existing software to automate content management as effectively as possible. Capable and detailed project management and workflow monitoring and documentation are expected. The Digital Access Coordinator will also be involved in development and support of browse options or alternative access methods for both digitized and incoming digital content. This person may assist in grant application development. This position will be involved in capture, quality control, optimization, gathering of administrative, technical, structural, and descriptive metadata, and tracking, archiving and storage of resulting digital objects, in order to provide continued access over time.Additionally, the Digital Access Coordinator will help design intern, practicum and teaching assistant jobs, seek applicants, and coordinate their assignments and supervision. This position will maintain appropriate hardware and software and perform other duties as needed. Supervision of up to eight (8) students may be assigned.The Digitization Access Coordinator position requires an individual who is self-motivated, analytical, and has an excellent customer service attitude. The successful applicant will have a good base of understanding of a variety of technologies related to digitization and digital libraries, and will be capable of quickly processing and integrating new information and developments. This position requires excellent people skills as well as the ability to understand technical issues and communicate them effectively. The successful application should be able to work independently and effectively in a collaborative setting. They should also have excellent organizational skills and the ability to juggle multiple competing priorities and achieve goals, and to manage projects from design to completion.
Required Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree and 2 years professional IT experience, OR Masters degree in related field, OR any equivalent combination of experience, training, education and/or certification from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been obtained. Knowledge of advanced programming, networking, system, multimedia, instructional technology skills or project management methods and applications. May require intermediate or advanced level training or certification.
Skills and Knowledge:
Knowledge of a variety of technologies related to various digital formats and operating systems, digitization and digital libraries.Evidence of technical expertise, including command-line scripting and familiarity with XML and XSLT.Working knowledge of markup and stylesheet languages such as XML, HTML, and XSLT.Knowledge of metadata standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, MODS, MIX, AES57, and METS.Effective oral, written and personal communication skills.
Advanced degree in information science, computer science, or related field.At least six (6) months of training or experience in digitization software, hardware, and applications.Evidence of self-motivation, responsibility, dependability, adaptability, and eagerness to learn and explore.Interest in archival formats and archival and delivery standards. Sensitivity to the handling issues of fragile library materials.Project management and/or supervisory experience.Demonstrated expertise in the creation and management of digital information in a library, archive, or museum setting.Software development expertise.Expertise in hardware and software trouble-shooting and analysis.Evidence of strong analytical problem-solving capabilities and detail orientation.Knowledge of diacritics and encoding issues, particularly between MS Office product exports and UTF-8.Experience in designing and interacting with databases (Access, SQL).Background in photography or digital imaging technologies OR background in analog/digital audio capture and editing. 58 Monthly (exempt): - Minimum - $ 37835.16 Midpoint - $ 54870.36
