This also includes programmatic responsibilities such as supporting the University's Title IX and sexual harassment policies and prompt, effective and remedial investigative responses to complaints of harassment and discrimination brought by students, faculty, staff and others and set forth in various university policies and guidelines.

The Accessibility Services Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing the process for providing accommodations and support services for employees and some students with disabilities across all Tufts campuses. This position will ensure that reasonable accommodations and services are in place with regard to ADA and Employment laws surrounding employees with disabilities and will work with some student disability issues as well. This position will work closely with the employee Leave Administrator, the Academic Resources Center for students and Legal Counsel.

The Accessibility Services Specialist will work closely with other Tufts University departments (i.e. Legal, Student Services, Deans, Health Services, Human Resources, Faculty and Staff Departments) to assess cases and ensure an accessible environment for Tufts University students and employees with disabilities. Key responsibilities of this position include; consulting with students, employees and other stakeholders; providing in-depth education to all stakeholders to reach consensus to identify an action plan for reasonable accommodations; identifying and making decisions about accommodation needs, and assisting in determining a need for independent medical examinations for employees; will coordinate accommodation services for students with multiple disabilities, identify strategies and resources (internal and external) to facilitate Best Practice responses to disability issues and accommodation requests; facilitate discussions and problem-solving with internal and external stakeholders for accommodation resolutions; initiate and engage PWD in the interactive process and identify and facilitate the implementation of reasonable accommodations on a case-by-case basis using the interactive process; utilize a database to track requests for reasonable accommodations; and provide recommendations and trainings to the Tufts community.

Basic Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in rehabilitation, special education, counseling, social work, higher education, or a related field
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in disability services within higher education or a similar environment
• Minimum of three plus (3+) years of experience managing a program for students and/or employees with disabilities; knowledge of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and ADA Compliance; demonstrated experience with mediation and facilitation; ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive University data
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office. Awareness and comfort with assistive technology

Preferred Qualifications:

• MCAD Certification.
• Comfortable working in a matrix environment.
• Ability to work across departments and with stakeholders who have competing interests.
• Comfort and knowledge working with adaptive educational services.

Special Work Schedule Requirements:
Work hours may include evenings and weekends depending on projects or cases.
