Project Director with the TRiO Student Support Services (SSS) program through Miami University Regional Campuses with an office on Middletown’s and Hamilton’s campus. The project director will recruit students for the TRiO program as well as manage, coordinate and provide academic, personal, career, financial, and transfer services to the TRiO students in order to meet the required enrollment, retention, graduation objectives of the grant. Support services also include presentations, committee work, occasional extracurricular activities.
Develop and implement program activities which will aid participating students in their academic, career, personal and organizational success.
Manage the program budget and reporting for the TRiO Grant in collaboration with the Executive Director of the program and campus accounting and budgeting programs.
Coordinate meetings, set agendas, and maintain meeting records.
Establish and maintain accurate, timely and complete recordkeeping processes, ensuring that all grant reporting requirements and restrictions are observed. In conjunction with the Executive Director of Student Support Services (SSS) and the Miami University business office, coordinate and compile data and prepare grant reports.
Administer data regarding participants and program outcomes; conduct research regarding program effectiveness and student tracking; and create and/or archive project documentation.
Prepare and submit monthly reports on program activities and accomplishments to the Executive Director of SSS, and other members of the university community.
Communicate the objectives and outcomes of the program to grant staff, administrators, other university personnel, and the grant program officer.
Attend meetings required by funding sources, which may require out-of-state travel.
Attend conferences relevant to the program and keep current with trends and developments in the fields of learning outcomes, assessment, and basic skills education.
Work with an evaluator and the Executive Director of SSS to implement the evaluation plan, data collection instruments, and participate in evaluation activities.
Collaborate with public information staff to develop public relations materials and media information for distribution.
Work with the academic coaches to create and analyze each student’s Individual Assessment Portfolio (IAP) and help to develop individual Degree Accomplishment Plans (DAP).
Advise TRiO students regarding academics, financial aid, internships, graduate school, scholarships, career options, and make appropriate campus and community referrals as needed
Maintain up-to-date individual student records and reports.
Assist with the direction and formulation of policies and programs that yield assistance to disabled and/or low-income students in obtaining services available at the University.
Develop and implement activities to promote student persistence and student growth.
Assist with improving the awareness of University faculty and staff about the needs of the Disabled and/or low-income student and assist in informing the University community about the goals, objectives and services of the Program.
Assist in identifying and/or selecting eligible students to participate in the program.
Act as a referral source for personal counseling to the Counseling Center.
Assist participants with their orientation to general academic life and its requirements.
Develop programming activities and the collaboration with the STEP (Summer Time Enhancement Program) Program.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Master’s degree in education, psychology, or related field, with emphasis in higher education and three years’ experience working with students in need of academic support and students with disabilities.
Must have project management experience, including staff supervision and budget management and the ability to work a flexible schedule that might include days, nights, and the occasional weekend.
Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to understand the needs of university students who are low income, first generation, and/or have disabilities and the ability to establish rapport and interact effectively with these populations.
Knowledge of appropriate college level strategies to enhance retention among students who are eligible to participate in the SSS project, including low-income or first generation students, students with disabilities, and students with academic need.
Ability to supervise and direct project staff in the areas of student academic advising, first-year orientation, financial aid and/or other retention related services. Basic accounting practices used in budgeting and recording expenditures.
Knowledge of federal grant proposal writing and reporting process and the ability to understand and interpret federal regulations. Knowledge of basic human resource processes necessary for developing job descriptions, interviewing, and recommending for hiring. Professional or personal experience in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting disadvantaged and at-risk students. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications and a basic knowledge of social media.
